It was meant to be an easy choice — a basket stand was considered, taken finally from a store; it was pieced together by you and your partner (with instructions ignored to favor common sense); and it was then placed in the corner of a nursery, gave the finishing touch for a perfect style. Cribs had all seemed too large, too clumsy, for the effect you were trying to create. You knew instead that a Moses Basket would provide a sharper design.  You merely first needed the stand. Building it was no worry, though, and decorating it would prove to be ideal.

That ideal went wincing to the floor with the first touch a pillow, however — and you were horrified.

You should have been.

Too often do parents assume that Moses Baskets can be quickly assembled, are without the precautions of cribs (which involve far more pieces and demand careful understandings of the instructions). When these baskets are considered, however, all must be aware of their potential lack of sturdiness. They each require stands, which must be built. And doing this improperly can cause complications.

Ensure that the basket is placed correctly onto the platform. Be certain also that the platform features straight legs and no lack of symmetry (imbalance is not a trait you want here). Follow all directions, making sure the base does not tilt or rock when touched. It must be steady — and you must then test this by placing items that are similar in weight to your child inside. See if there are any signs of sagging weaves or straining bolts. Tighten everything accordingly.

A Moses Basket can add an instant sense of style to any room. It can also, however, cause worries if not properly maintained. Be sure you understand all instructions and gauge your work thoroughly before placing your baby inside. Do not risk a lack of stability simply to achieve a fashionable design. Assemble with care.
